Transparency Matters: Standing Up for Columbia’s Community
Recently, it came to light that the federal government quietly signed a 10-year, $4.3 million lease to open an ICE office in downtown Columbia without informing local leaders. The Mayor, City Manager, City Council, and Columbia Police Department were all left out of the process.
This lack of transparency is unacceptable. Our community deserves honesty, open communication, and a seat at the table when major decisions are made that affect our city and our residents.
I have issued a full public statement and will be requesting a federal briefing to get clear answers. Columbia should never be blindsided, and we will not remain silent while constituents raise legitimate concerns about their rights and safety.
If you or someone you know has questions about your legal rights or feels uncertain about how this development may affect you, I am here to help.
